Choosing a Suitable Grooming Location

Choosing a suitable location to do your dog grooming can make a lot of difference. In order to effectively establish grooming habits. You need an area that is practical but also enjoyable to work in. It should be an area that would contribute to grooming your dog on a regular basis. Think of an area inside or outside your home where you think will be the best place to do your grooming session. Here are some points to consider when setting up an ideal grooming station.

The amount of mess your grooming will make can determine the best place to groom. Find out how much clean up your dog requires. Long haired dogs can be easily groomed indoors because their coat stays in the comb. On the other hand, if you have a short coated dog, you may want to groom him outdoor since brushing a short coated shedder releases tiny hairs in the air.

An extra room in your house or maybe even the basement might also be a suitable place to do your dog grooming. These locations work great unless they are very small, dark, uncomfortable, stuffy, or inconvenient.

A suitable grooming location is one that is bright during the day and provides plenty of lighting at night. It should have plenty of working space to do your grooming, big enough for you and your dog to be able to move around, especially if you have a large dog. You also need a location that is easy to clean.

But whether you do your grooming inside or outside your house, in your bathroom or garage, pick a location and be consistent with it. Consistency is very important in choosing a location because it helps your dog associate that place with grooming and helps him get use to it. He will feel comfortable knowing what he’s in store for when you take him to that place. Being consistent with one grooming location will make grooming easier for everyone.
